Rushden Lakes is a £140m shopping, leisure and retail scheme in Rushden, Northamptonshire. Uniquely positioned on the site of the old Skew Bridge ski club, the development occupies 30 acres of prominent brownfield land and incorporates a 14 acre lake and SSSI woodland.
Working closely with architects HPW, the detailed design sensitively incorporates the lake and woodland, building on the landscape strategy initially prepared for the planning application. Setting a new standard in retail and leisure experiences the scheme boasts 230,000 sq ft (Phase 1) of retail and restaurant accommodation, a boathouse and lake for recreation and watersports, water features, and an extensive boardwalk overlooking the water.
Funded by The Crown Estate following its purchase from the developer LxB, enabling works began on site in 2015. The scheme comprises three phases with the phase 1 construction of three retail terraces and associated restaurants, which opened in summer 2017. Phases 2 and 3 are ongoing with the erection of a 14 screen cinema and an additional retail terrace.
