The development for St John’s charity within central Winchester’s conservation area provided 14 flats and returned neglected areas of open space to usable resident amenity areas.

Ground-level climbing plants on a facade mounted frame link the green roof to the wider planting scheme for maximum habitat value, enhancing residents' wellbeing by drawing nature into the development. A number of bat and bird nesting boxes provide habitat opportunities and spectacle for the residents.
A substantial corten planter with seating provides robust separation between the parking area and frontal garden.
A variety of spaces and aspects allow use throughout the day, including a secluded residents' garden and water feature connected to a historic dipping pool.
The planting strategy varied across the site to cope with sun and shade.
Wildflower planting and fruit trees enhance the rear residents garden, promoting casual interaction and  engagement with nature.
The project includes permeable surfaces and surface water drainage to attenuation cells passively irrigating the planting.
